Envelope converting

Turning a flat sheet of paper into an envelope is called converting. Envelopes can be printed before or after converting, and it changes what’s possible.

Printed after converting

  • Almost all one- and two-color envelopes.
  • Needs a 5/16" margin with no printing around the edges.
  • Full-color envelopes can also be printed digitally after converting.

Printed before converting

  • Offset full-color envelopes.
  • Edge-to-edge printing (bleeds).
  • Printing inside the envelope, such as security tints.
  • Some foil and embossed designs.
  • A “two-sided” envelope prints on one side of the flat sheet.
  • Large solid ink areas may need printing first to avoid seam lines.

Many converters require a minimum of 5,000 envelopes. Our minimum is 250. Request an envelope quote.
